EARL HYDE Personal Bio Guitar

Earl started his musical career in the third grade when his parents signed him up for guitar lessons at a neighborhood music store. He continued those lessons throughout high school. After graduating from high school, Earl completed both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Music Education at Western Michigan University where he majored on French horn. Because guitar remained his first love, Earl continued his guitar studies after college with Joe Fava in Detroit and Johnny Smith in Colorado Springs.

Earl’s musical experiences are varied and extensive. In 1963 he began performing concerts with the Kalamazoo Symphony. As guitarist with the KSO, Earl performed with Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Doc Severinson, and Errol Garner. He also continues to play with touring companies bringing shows into Miller Auditorium. Some of his credits include Porgy and Bess, A Chorus Line, Chicago, Fiddler on the Roof, and Hello Dolly with Carol Channing.

For the past forty-five years, Earl has performed with many small groups and also as a solo artist. He has perfected his jazz style as well as playing all styles of pop music. As leader of his own band, The Knights, he has performed in night clubs and provided music for private parties throughout West Michigan.
